Recorded at Tonwerk 01/24 - 06/02/97 - Produced by Seba Fell

After the Beatsteaks constantly participated in local competitions and talent shows to follow their musical dreams, Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß came up with the idea of recording an actual album. Released in May of 1997, the name of their first LP, 48/49, comes from the house number of their first ever rehearsal room at the Alte Schönhauser Strasse 48/49 in Berlin. It's the name of the album, the name of a song on the album and since there is a hidden track on the CD also the length of the album. According to Bernd Kurtzke, this album represented what they were standing for at the time. It was perfect. Teutoburg-Weiß on the other hand said that they don't play songs off of that album anymore since he no longer associates with most of the lyrics on that album.
This album would be the first and last one to feature their ex-drummer Stefan "Steffi" Hircher since he left the band a few months later.
